Yesterday the Virginia GOP came very close to taking control of the state Senate, nearly luring a Democratic Senator to switch parties and put them at a 20-20 tie, which would have been broken by the Republican Lt. Governor. Then Jeff Frederick, a state legislator and the party chairman, ruined it all by Twittering this:
Big news coming out of Senate: Apparently one dem is either switching or leaving the dem caucus. Negotiations for power sharing underway.The Dems then read the message, quickly mobilized to talk the renegade out of it, and stopped the GOP coup before it could happen. (tpm)

Absolutely agreed. Why the hell doesn’t anyone actually MAKE the opposition party filibuster anymore? This 60 votes required for everything stuff is BULLSHIT and is due to Harry Reid having ABSOLUTELY NO SPINE WHATSOEVER.Senate Democrats say they don’t have enough votes to pass the stimulus. It’s not the stimulus part of this that upsets me, but the fucking idiotic notion that you need 60 votes to pass anything in the Senate. The Democrats currently hold 58 seats, and only 50 seats are needed to pass a bill. They’re letting Republicans force a 60-vote threshold, but they are not actually making them filibuster.
How about you actually force the Republicans to physically stand in the well of the Senate with cameras rolling and block legislation. The filibuster is a last resort, not standard operating procedure for every single fucking bill that needs to pass through the Senate.
It is complete madness.

Wouldn’t we all love to see the Republicans forced to filibuster for hours BLOCKING a bill designed to help the average American and get the economy back on track? What’s the downside to that??
nanny woke me up this morning to say she backed her car into mine, but it was just a little paint chip that could be fixed in no time. in real life, that means she slammed the back corner of her massive aviator into it, causing this lovely dent. i’m not sure how it didn’t destroy more. ouch. it’s already fixed, looks brand new, and i’m not allowed to tell my dad. she did the exact same thing to his car in the exact same spot over the summer.
early 2007. looking back through old pictures. this one makes me smile so much. what a great night with my best friends. good ole tremont. i’m pretty sure this was at jonezetta. backstabber! backstabber! i would kill to relive some of those good shows in college. and the road trips. and to have hair that long again. haha. i really liked that purple dress, and this was the only time i got to wear it. i washed it wrong, and it shrank to nothing.
